Little Bear and His Chair

I  am reviewing the 44-page children's book, Little Bear and his Chair by Claressa Swensen and illustrated by Alena Paklina. This book was published on July 15, 2018, by Claressa Swensen.

The Author

Claressa has written many children's books. When she isn't writing, she is taking care of her own little bookworm. She lives in Northern Utah with her husband, baby girl, and two dogs.

According to Claressa, the reason she wrote this book was not only to teach the importance of sharing and taking responsibility for your actions but also to encourage building stronger friendships and valuing those relationships over material things (the author has given me permission for quoting her).

Alena Paklina, the illustrator, is an artist based in Russia. her style differs in airiness, harmonious combinations of colors, an unusual game of light and different textures. Little Bear is her first children's book and she plans to illustrate more in the future.

The Book

Little Bear has a favorite chair that he doesn't allow anyone to sit in except for himself. This causes problems when his best friend the lion sits in it one day. Little Bear gets mad, the Lion gets hurt and goes tell their friends which leads to no one playing with Little Bear. Will Little Bear realize that his friends are more important than his chair? Or, will he choose his chair over his friends?

This book is full of beautiful illustrations that flow consistently with its color theme of reds, Browns, and greens. It has a fluidity to it that it's easy to read and follow along. I love this book because even though there is bullying in this book there is also a lesson to be learned. In the end, Little Bear did learn a valuable lesson.

I think this book is great for little children to read because it touches on sharing, bullying, and what's important. This is a book in which one will learn a lesson in.

The Book

The Tales of Peter the Pixie: Peter and the Ants pt1 is written by Gary Edwards Gedall and illustrated by Valerie Romer. It was published by From Words to Worlds on July 11, 2018. You can also listen to this animated video "I Can Read" version on YouTube. It has 36 pages of beautiful illustrations and a great storyline.

The Author

Gary Edward Gedall was born in Manchester UK. His mother owned a record shop while his dad was a traveling jazz drummer. During his childhood, Gary and his family went from rags to riches and back to rags. He started writing poetry at his boarding school and at the age of 14, he wrote his first short story. During college, he started writing plays. In 1986, he finished writing a virtual reality story, "The Dream Machine." He has written many other books since then.

About the Book

This book introduces the lonely and scared, Peter the Pixie. He arrives in a place that he doesn't know. He is wet, cold, and hungry. He finds shelter. Then something happens that makes him leave that shelter. Where he ends up, he meets the ants. What happens next, you will need to read the book to find out.

The main characters in this book are Peter the Pixie, who arrives in this place on a leaf and who needs to find shelter, warmth and food and the other main characters are the ants, who help Peter. This book is a children's picture book with beautiful illustrations that help the story. There are no illustrations that don't belong there.

What I liked about the book was there is a lesson to be learned from this series. The author wrote this book in a way that it can stand on its own without the rest of the books that follow. The layout of the book makes it so that children can follow along. There is an illustration on each page. There was nothing that I disliked about this book. I am not a child but I can't wait to see what happens next. This book caught my attention from the beginning with its descriptive vocabulary. While reading this, I could picture the setting in my mind. My favorite part was the ending when the ant tells Peter why they helped him. I did think it was funny when at the beginning of the book, Peter tried to jump to the Rock and fell in the water.

Recommendations

I would recommend this book to children between the ages of 2 to 6. I believe that children who love to hear about fairy tales, myths, and folklore, would enjoy this. I also think that this is a great book for parents to read to their children.

The 458-page Trelloran Seduction (The Making of a Goddes #1) is the first book in the series written by Georgia Carter Mathers. The book was published on the 16th of December in 2016 by Painless Editing and Publishing. Georgia has also written another book, The Devil Inside. The author writes paranormal romance, not for the faint of heart. She was born in Sydney, Australia. She is a writer, editor, mother, and a wife. She has an Associate Degree in Creative Writing, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Publishing. Georgia writes about issues that touch her heart and from a woman's viewpoint.

Hero and Heroine

The two main characters are Kaitlau and Pietah. Kaitlau is a Princess Nymph from Trellora. She can change into anything at will. She has been kept a prisoner in her home for 200 years by her vampire parents, King Ganim and her Queen mother. Kaitlau is repeatedly raped by priests who impregnate her so her mother can feed on them.

Pietah is a rebel who lives on Volen. All he wants to do now is kill all priests because of them, his wife, Diatra and his daughter, Nia is dead. He is obsessed with killing them all until a chance encounter with Kaitlau. He wants to show her that she deserves to be loved.

Will someone save the planet of Volen?

The people of Volen are not humans but units in which the female is sacrificed on her 30th birthday. The males outlive their counterparts. On their 30th birthday, they are taken away, raped before the priests kill them for their brain fluid. Then the priests drink it which is called the Cleansing. This is how Pietah loses his wife.

Kaitlau doesn't want to save anyone, she just wants revenge against her father, who she thought loved her. He might not have been in the room but he knew what the priests were doing to her and did nothing to save her.

She escapes her home of Trellora by going through the charmed window. When she goes through she ends up in Volen, where she witnesses, Pietah killing a priest and trying to save a female from being killed and murdered. They both have reasons to want the vampire, King Ganim, dead. Along the way, they start to fall in love. They both of issues to work out but she doesn't want to be touched and he still loves his dead wife but wants to show Kaitlau that she deserves to be loved.

This is my first time reading a book from Georgia Carter Mathers. It took me a few days to get through this book not because it is bad but because of the violence and rape. At times I had a hard time reading it because it dealt with issues that happen today in some countries which are that women are killed, beaten, and raped. Overall, the novel was great. It is a much darker novel than I usually read because I am more of a historical romance reader without darkness in it. But I am glad that I read it all.

Recommendations

If you are looking for a sweet romance novel, then I would not recommend this book to you. This is not a book for the faint of heart. This book is for mature adults. There are scenes here not suited for young adults. This book deals with violence, brutality, rape, assault, sacrifice, and much more.

I would recommend this book for readers who love to read paranormal romances with strong characters that hope for a better life even when there doesn't like there is any hope left. If you love fantasy, paranormal romance, strong and broody characters, then this is the book for you.
