VerAegis Relationships: Live Beyond Your Comfort Zone by James M. Haden

I am reading an interesting non-fiction book, VerAegis Relationships: Live Beyond Your Comfort Zone by James M. Haden.  This is book 1 of a three-part series.  The other books include, VerAegis-Contributions, VerAegis-Spirit, and VerAegis-Lifeline.  The author wrote this book using his experiences while balancing his family with his work life. According to James, “the key to our effectiveness and ultimately our happiness is responding to life in a manner that balances relationships, contribution and spirit.”  He is right.  We do need a balance in our life or we won’t be effective.

He does mention why he named his book VerAegis and he explains the other three books that he has written.  He touches on many relationships and he uses his own experience, research and Bible verses to get his points across.  This book talks about what motivates us; His Actions- Her Actions as a couple; the emotional maturity; manage thought from the parent, adult and child; effective thinking; different situations require different thoughts; being a family; raising strong sons and daughters; and the crazy cycle of parent-child. The author conveys ways that we can change our relationships.

I love reading self-help books because there is always something that I can do to improve in my life.  And this book is perfect because it is on relationships.   I love reading self-help books when the author uses his experiences with that of his research.  Another wonderful thing about this book is that it is well researched, compact and concise. It all comes together to make a fantastic book that we as readers can read and understand.

A Wolf by the Ears by A.S.A Durphy

A Wolf by the Ears, by A.S.A. Durphy is an action and thriller novel.  Gracie, is a private detective who is waiting for her next case and to show her mettle to fellow detective, Walker.  Her next case shows up as a scared young man who claims he is being framed. Zach explains that he found a flash drive taped under his desk and it had complicated information on it that he didn't understand.  He thinks his boss put it there.  They take the case and it is their job to keep him alive and out of jail.  Walker and Gracie take turns in following Zach's boss, Graff.  It is while following Graff, that Gracie meets the assassins, Red and Blue.  Instead of killing her, they give her a warning.  Next what follows is mayhem.  Murder, espionage, missing client, can Walker and Gracie find Zach before the bad guys do and keep him safe?  Gracie will do anything to save her client even put herself in harms way.  You will have to read the book to find out.
What I find intriguing is that Gracie is talking to two ghosts periodically through the book.  The ghosts is her dad and her former partner, who you meet in the first book.  You also meet her brother and a friend.  Gracie is still recovering from her wounds that she received in the first book but that doesn't stop her from protecting her client.  When you read this series, you get the perspective from all the characters, from the main to the least.  Which I find interesting since majority of the books are mainly from one perspective.  You also get the sense that she has issues which lead her to her shrink.
I love the fact that this is the second book in this series and that it continues from the first book.  Another thing is that it is told from different perspectives but mainly Gracie and Walker's since they are the main characters in this book.  This book is great that it captures my attention from the moment I start reading until the very last word.  After reading this book, the reader will want to get the third book and continue reading on.
For me, there wasn't anything that I didn't like about the book.  It is fantastic.  Readers will see that the characters all come alive with their own unique characteristics. In some books you read there will be errors or flaws but there isn't any in this case.
I rate A Wolf by the Ears by A.S.A. Durphy,  4 out of 4. This book has excitement, espionage, murder, a missing witness, action and characters that you root for and ones you don't.  I rated this book the way I did because I didn't notice any errors, it caught my attention and kept it and also because the characters and the concept of it came together perfectly.   I would recommend this book to anyone who loves books with action, espionage, murder and a victim that is being framed.  And I think this book would be for the readers who loves reading about female private detectives.

Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks by Morton E. Travel

Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks. A Physicians Advice is in enriched nonfiction book written by Morton E. Travel a M.D.  This book was published by Brighton Publishing Company in 2015.  I was fascinated by this book and its author that I had to look him up.  While reading about him, I learned that he wrote another book similar to this and it is called, Snake Oil is Alive and Well.  Just by reading the title, the reader knows that this book is about your health.

Dr. Travel wrote this book after he wrote Snake Oil is Alive and Well.  As you read this, you will see that it is easy to read and understand.  As you read this book to the end, you will notice how well researched this book was.

This beautifully written book is divided into three parts.  The first section talks about our health and how we can incorporate the tips in our life so that we can live long and healthy.  Information in this section includes what we should eat and how much to what we shouldn’t eat to how to manage our weight and more insightful information.  The second section is on Myths and the many conspiracies that people have about our health.  The last section is about the Tricks that people will say or do to get us to pay for their product that is dangerous to our health.

The great thing about Dr. Travel is that he includes his references on his information regarding the studies that he writes about.  Even with its 280 pages, this book was fast paced with its well thought out information.  I loved that it had his references included at the end.

I love this book and will continue to flip through the many pages to reread the many health tips.  I love that the author wrote a chapter on each topic, for example, he wrote about coffee, green tea, eating breakfast, weight, chocolate, foods to avoid and many more.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 because it was well written and informative and Dr. Travel backed up his opinions with extensive research.  There were some minor errors. What really stood out for me was the amount of research that he did and that he genuinely cares about what he writes.   This book would appeal to readers who are concerned about their health and want to make a change in their daily life.  Readers who want to keep this book and always refer to the information all the time.  This book wouldn’t be for people who don’t want to change their life.
